Making Room For the LORD Jesus

What Jesus Wants For Christmas!

Luke 2:7

I.      Introduction -

A.    In Luke 2 we have the account of the birth of the Baby Jesus:

1.        Joseph and Mary great with child headed down to their home-town of Bethlehem to be registered for the new tax

2.        They commence to looking for a place that Mary can have the baby born, only to find all the doors closed in their face. There just was no place available for the birth of Jesus - too inconvenient.

3.     No room except in a shameful, dirty, smelly barn full of animals.

4.     And that’s where the Son of God was born that Christmas day some 2,000 years ago!

B.    That little baby grew up and went and died in our place on the cross for our sins. He now reigns victorious over death and hell, never to die again! Above all, Jesus Christ is not that little baby in a manger anymore. That was only the beginning! He is God - creator and sustainer of this universe! And beyond that, He is LORD, Master.

C.    Sad to say though. Today things haven’t changed very much.

1.     Sure there is room for a baby Jesus -  people are now content to permit a little baby Jesus to be displayed in a manger, to be sung about in songs on the radio, and to be used in advertising

2.     But when it comes to yielding to Him as LORD Jesus, well, He is just not wanted - there just is no room for that kind of a Saviour today.

3.        People have so little time these days - busy with school, work, meeting friends, sports, homework, TV, new CDs, Videos, laziness! Don’t let that be true in your life after today!

II.    Message - Making Room for the LORD Jesus (Luke 2:7)

A.    Make Room for His Word (John 8:37)

1.     The Jews had their religion, their special holydays, rituals, and prayers! They were busy with work and families and their lives.

2.     But when Jesus came, they had no place in their lives for what He had to say - they had already filled their lives up with so many things - worthless things. All Jesus was to them was a bother, and they wished He would just go away! Isn’t that true today?!

3.        Especially true when it comes to God, and more importantly to His word! People say that they “love God” and it is true that they may go to church, and say their prayers, but what about this ol’ Book? How much time do we really have for it? What place should it occupy in our lives? Does God expect more out of us than we currently are giving? How important is this Bible to be in our busy hectic schedule?

4.     You see, there is a definite reason why people spend so much time and effort attempting to fill up their lives with these activities: Because their lives are so very empty! Only Christ can fill that empty soul; and He only does it through the work of His word! God does not work through religion, church, temple, visions, but through the revelation found right here! Determine to daily make time and place for this Book in your life!

B.    Make Room for His Will, His Wants (Luke 6:45; Rev 4:11)

1.     The highest calling of any human is to know God, and then to live for Him

2.     This goes against all current trends today. Most people are so SELF motivated. Some are OTHERS motivated, but very few seem to be GOD motivated (seeking to do what God has said ought to be done in His word).

C.    Make Room for His Worship (John 4:23,24)

1.     Not ritualistic, hope-so, maybe-so, trying my best type of rubbish

2.     But a confident, spirit filled, God honouring worship that is firmly grounded in TRUTH, not in opinions and guesses!!!

D.    Make Room for His Work (Phil 1:6)

1.     He started His work when you allowed Jesus into your heart to save you.

2.     He only desires to continue that work until completion. God does nothing half-heartedly, and is not interested in beginning something that He cannot complete.

3.        Involves the work of cleaning up your life from the inside out so that you are more and more like He wants you to be, instead of how you, or your friends want you to be (Eph 5:25-27)

E.     Make Room for His Ways (Heb 3:10)

1.        They don’t care about learning how God acts, or why. They just spend all their time blaming Him for everything that they can’t deal with.

2.        What God is asking for is us to give Him the benefit of the doubt. Allow Him to work as He sees fit in the situations in your life!

3.     Give Him the right to do as He thinks it should be done, and not as YOU think it should be - because you and I would probably be 100% wrong!

F.     Make Room for His Wealth (Rev 3:17,18)

1.     We get our eyes on the things of this life -material possessions, and loose sight of eternity, and all the wealth that God has in store for us

Matt 6:19,20 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

2.        What are we talking about - I will live just three things:

a.     Crowns in heaven

1Pe 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

2 Tim 4:7,8  I have fought a good fight, I have finished [my] course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

b.     Rewards

Rom 8:17,18 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

c.     Eternal Life itself (Rom 6:23; Eph 2:8,9)
