How much will it take to buy just a couple hours of your time?
For your family? For your soul?
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Matthew 16:26
What if time weren’t money? What if there were no money at all? Would you spend as many hours at the office? Would you have a cell phone permanently attached to your ear? Would you micro budget, fret over the mortgage payments or obsess over the cost of braces? Would you wonder if college were out of reach for your children, ponder the necessity of a new car? What would you do with your time? Bet you’d live like today counts and you would spend every possible moment caring for the ones who care for you. You’d savor life; embrace your existence; marvel at the wonderful family with whom you have been blessed.
Sometimes ‘what if’s?’ are just what we need to get things into perspective. Wanting to provide for your family is a good thing. But what a family truly needs rarely carries a price tag. Your time, your understanding, your undivided attention is worth infinitely more than anything money can buy. If your life has become more about the struggle of ‘making it,’ maybe it’s time to ask yourself ‘what if?’ What if you rearranged your priorities? What if the temporary things were moved to the bottom of the list and the timeless things, the things that count, were placed at the top?
It’s hard to go against the flow of society, but the good news is that you don’t have to do it on your own. God gave us a wonderful gift--a Saviour, a Counsellor, a Comforter, a Provider, a strong Shoulder to lean on in times of stress—Jesus. It sounds crazy, but taking the time to talk to Him really brings a great deal of perspective and potency to this thing called living. So give it a try, talk to Him in prayer. Get the tough stuff out of the way and then maybe you’ll have more ‘worry-free’ time to spend on your family. That's why Jesus set up the First day of the week - Sunday - so that we could keep the important things at the top, and everything else will just fall into place. Bring your family out to a church that cares, and can help you "keep things in perspective!" That will be, Bible Baptist Church, of Ballincollig!
